Ways to make your job easier

Do you recognize the terms spiral approach, learning preferences, and interdisciplinary integration?

Because you’re in the driver’s seat, not your child, which means it’s not your child controlling you.

Read on for some quick explanations and, more importantly, find out why these methods can make your job easier.

  • Abeka’s Spiral Method—Easy to more difficult, with frequent review and application within each grade and between grade levels.
    • This means you avoid learning gaps from your first day of teaching with Abeka to your last.
    • The effort you put in now will pay off later (for example, thoroughly teaching and reviewing the multiplication tables can make your child less afraid of math).
    • Because repetition is the key to learning, concepts are truly learned and remembered.
    • Because a concept doesn’t appear just once, or in one way, it means you’re giving your child multiple opportunities to succeed.
    • When you realize you have more than one chance to make sure your child understands a concept, the tough days become less stressful.
  • Learning Preferences – With the 3 main learning styles (auditory, visual and kinesthetic, or auditory, visual and hands-on), learning preference refers to how you prefer to learn something, given the choice. Rather than favoring one over the others, we will blend all three.
    • By using these three methods, you can teach your children to become adaptable, resilient learners.
    • You are preparing them for college and real life.
    • You don’t put your child—or yourself—into a box of learning preferences.
    • You don’t have to feel guilty for not using a different curriculum for each child.
    • You’re doing what the best teachers do to help students learn.
  • Interdisciplinary Integration – Bringing concepts from one discipline into several other disciplines to reinforce concepts and tie learning together.
    • Interdisciplinary integration makes learning more engaging (for example, students study Abraham Lincoln in history class, read about him in language arts class, do art projects with coins and top hats, and use what they know write a story).
    • Children feel a sense of familiarity and accomplishment when they see something they have already learned (such as spelling words) “appear” in another subject (such as science or literature).
    • It inspires curiosity and emphasizes the big picture.

Bible Basics and Content

Our philosophy doesn’t come from what sounds good or what everyone else is doing right now. Instead, our parent-led character-building philosophy is rooted in biblical foundations

Train up a child in the way he should go. ——

Proverbs 22:6a

Because you’re in the driver’s seat, not your child, which means it’s not your child controlling you.

You are leading them.

There is structure and organization because it helps children know what to expect—and what is expected of them—and because 1 Corinthians 14:40 says: “Do everything in an orderly manner order line.”

Everything must be done in an orderly manner. ——

1 Corinthians 14:40

In history, you see the hand of God. In science you see his design. In grammar you see his order.

Each topic is approached from a Christian perspective, and you’ll find Scripture and biblical principles used to emphasize or illustrate concepts.

The balance between life and family education

You can learn and enjoy life at home with Abeka’s guidance.

Most families are done with kindergarten classes after about an hour and a half, elementary classes by lunchtime, and high school classes by 2 or 3 p.m.

Need more flexibility? Abeka Academy’s professional teachers provide video home education

  • Put you in control
  • Get your kids involved
  • Added some competition with pre-recorded students in the video
  • Let your children attend classes whenever they want, even if you can’t be with them
  • Virtually reduces your preparation time

Achievable goals

Too little challenge can lead to complacency. Too many challenges can be frustrating.

Our goal is to get it just right.

Because Abeka is carefully developed and tested using proven methods,

  •
  • Ordinary students can succeed, too.
  •
  • Students who need more help can succeed at a slower pace.
  •
  • High-achieving students can succeed and go on to achieve more,
  • You won’t feel like school is boring or too simple.

You’ll find a decent amount of age-appropriate content.

What does this mean to you? You can complete a workbook during the school year. You can complete books from start to finish—and there’s no rush.

How many lessons are there in the lesson plan? There are 170 lessons in total, so there are 10 lessons for extra review, projects and field trips.

How long does it take to complete the course? On average it takes 9 months. The beauty is…it’s up to you.

Color and type

Your child will meet characters like Alexander Alligat and Tim the Traveler.

They will explore colorful themes and discover information

with the help of professional illustrations.

Vivid pictures.

Professionally produced charts, maps and timelines.

They’ll see names and dates,

But they will also see the full picture—the story of history, the beauty of language,

the miracles of God’s creation

…and this is just the beginning.

Best of both worlds

You can rely on high academic standards and a biblical worldview so that your children don’t fall by the wayside and make a difference in the world.

When you combine our curriculum with your commitment, you will prepare your children to do anything God asks of them.
