· American Literature – Great American short stories, poems, and other selections organized by genre and period to reflect the specific characteristics of the period – a great introduction to the study of literature in college! His eyes will be opened to the craft of literature as he traces a theme through Hawthorne’s “The Scarlet Letter.” Class discussions and essay questions will develop his analytical skills.

·Grammar and Composition – A grammar manual for use in grades 11-12 will be a valuable resource, even in college! It provides a complete treatment of the elements required for effective writing and correct grammar. Eleventh graders complete college preparatory writing assignments in research, essays, and literary analysis.

·Vocabulary, Spelling, Poetry—emphasis on the origins of words; word analysis through study of prefixes, roots, and suffixes; word analogies are an education in themselves! In addition to 144 vocabulary words, your teen will learn over 1,000 synonyms and antonyms. By reciting Frost’s “The Road Not Taken” and 8 other poems with his video classmates, your teen will be inspired by great ideas presented in great language.

His exciting video teacher from Abeka Academy will take your teen and his video classmates through this advanced study of the nation’s history as they track the nation’s progress and make the past come alive!

Inspired by a teacher who loves chemistry, your teen can understand and appreciate chemistry with his video classmates! —especially since the course is presented from a creation-based Christian perspective. The knowledge he acquires in class about molecular and descriptive chemistry is reinforced through 27 demonstrations in the laboratory manual; he will study different chemical laws, colloids, chemical kinetics through practical activities specifically detailed in these demonstrations , oxidation, etc. The periodic table makes a good friend! Your teen and his or her video classmates will also learn step-by-step how to choose a problem and then plan, experiment, report, and present the findings of a science project.

Life is full of questions—the answers require a search for the truth. Being able to reason from truth is critical in every aspect of life – from buying a car to voting for political leaders! Because geometry is deductive and logical, learning geometry will help your teen improve his reasoning skills. When he uses proofs, he certainly uses analytic reasoning. His Abeka Academy teacher will guide him and his video classmates to use deduction to prove that geometric statements are true. Throughout the course, they will study theorems and calculations on topics such as angles, triangles, loci, proportions, circles, and more.

Your teen will feel like a member of the class as he becomes more familiar with his video classmates. The teacher will even pause to give the “students watching” a chance to participate.
