This year, your second grader will learn all special sounds and read a total of 10 readers. He will also start writing letters and thank-you notes. In arithmetic, your second grader will finally learn four-digit addition and subtraction, multiplication and division, rounding, and more! History will be great fun as your child will be introduced to a deeper study of our country, America, and the people who founded it. By the end of second grade, your child will have made amazing leaps in learning! With Abeka Academy’s virtual programs, you can easily homeschool more than one child at a time, even when your family is away.
As your child becomes familiar with the students in the videos, he will feel like he is part of the class. The teacher will even stop and let the “watching students” take turns participating in games, competitions, and drills! While enjoying the fun and expanded learning of a classroom experience, your child will enjoy your one-on-one guidance at home as you listen to him read and recite, administer tests, and check his papers.
Pre-recorded online video streams or DVDs give you the flexibility to set your own daily schedule. The video rental provides a full 12 months to complete 170 lessons.
Phonics and Reading—Daily exercises help your class reinforce phonics concepts to build their reading skills. Your students will read aloud from a total of 11 books containing classic and modern stories and poems related to phonics.
Language – Your second grader will know how and when to use capital letters and how to write complete sentences and even short stories!
Spelling and Poetry — Phonics-based word lists and activities strengthen reading skills and teach spelling. From the second semester onwards, vocabulary words with definitions will be added. Students will remember many delightful poems!
Writing — Abeka teaches a step-by-step approach to good calligraphy, emphasizing neatness and correct letter formation in daily practice.
Arithmetic – Learning place value, addition and subtraction, money, graphs, measurements, time, temperature and fractions will be a positive experience this year thanks to Abeka’s clear instruction and planned practice.
History – Your students will read about the people who founded the nation and gain a better understanding of national holidays, songs, and flag ceremonies.
Science – Your second grade course will improve reading comprehension while developing thinking skills as each student considers the “how” and “why” questions behind the basic science of the human body, plants, animals, matter, energy, and space .
Health – From flossing regularly to eating right, from crossing the street to fire escape plans, from learning to apologize to answering the phone properly, your students will learn how to glorify God in the way they care for themselves and treat others.
